Who would win? Navy SEALs or US Marines? #soldiers #romance #heroes

While writing my Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge Series I learned how truly tough these soldiers are. I couldn't respect them more, but if they went head to head, who'd come out on top. Not that I think they ever would.
I found this on You Tube and had to share.
It's only one opinion of, course.
Also,
I have great news to share.
The lovely people at Loose id have released my three stand alone romances in one box set. Not only is it convenient, but you can save over $3 by buying the box set.
These action packed romances tell of kidnappings, spy rings, and arsonists, all set in the North Carolina Town of Westhorpe Ridge.

Marriage, Mobsters, and the Marine -  Abigail advertises for a husband, but can her marriage of conveyance turn into a love match?

Sex, Scandal, and the Sheriff   - Sean enjoys a one-night stand with Jazz, but can love blossom after he accused her of being a spy

Desire, Deceit, and the Doctor  - Can love blossom second time around for Mandy after Adam betrayed her? And how will he react when she tells him he has a son?

Extract from Marriage, Mobsters, and the Marine

The engine stopped, and she heard a car door slam. She needed out of the trunk, but no one came for her. What if they abandon the car and leave me? I don’t want to die trussed up in a car trunk. A fresh wave of fear washed through her, along with a spike of adrenaline. Her body trembled, but time slowed and her thoughts cleared. She needed to take things one step at a time.
Step one—get her arms free. She wriggled around, hoping the rough ride had dislodged something she could use to cut the rope. Bingo. Her fingers touched a metal box. Maybe it held tools or a knife. She almost wept when she couldn’t open it. The hinge stuck out from the box, so she twisted some more, running the rope against the hinge. Periodically, she stopped and tensed her wrists in an attempt to pull the nylon strands apart.
She’d no idea how long she worked at her bonds. It seemed like hours until the rope finally gave way. Relieved tears filled her eyes. Rather than rub her wrists, she tugged off the hood and pulled the gag from her mouth. She’d never been so thirsty. She’d give anything for a cold beer right now.
Step two—find the release mechanism the law said every car should have in the trunk. She felt claustrophobic, so scared she could barely move, but she forced herself to concentrate. There, in the corner, a glow-in-the-dark lever beckoned. Wriggling like a maggot in a fisherman’s box, she kicked it for all she was worth, and the trunk lid popped open.
The air smelled wonderful, if slightly musty, but silence and utter darkness surrounded her. She listened a while, decided her captors had left, and slipped out the trunk. No lights shone through the darkness. Using her hands rather than her eyes, she found a lug wrench and flashlight alongside the spare tire beneath the space she’d just escaped. She grabbed both, quietly shut the trunk, and headed into the darkness.

Will Lyndsey commit to be his alone or does he have to play the dating game a while longer?

If you love romance, don’t miss this short story from the popular Executive Wives Club series

Excerpt:

Frustrated by his answers and his standoffish attitude, she rose onto one knee and swung her leg over his to straddle his lap. She rested her hands on his shoulders. “And if he still doesn’t like the fact we’re dating?”
She rubbed his chest, enjoying the soft texture of his cotton T-shirt. “Though in truth, I’m not sure we can claim we’re doing anything other than sharing the same space.”
Grinning, he circled her waist and his fingers toyed with the hem of her top. “You’re just cranky because you’re still recovering from the concert last night. I told you when we booked it we wouldn’t get home until late.”
Lyndsey smiled, remembering the wonderful music. The only drawback being the long drive back from the casino in Iowa and the early wake-up call this morning to get ready for work. Tuesday night was not the best night to party. She’d survived, but today, her patience with his aloof attitude had hit ground zero.
“That’s not the problem.” She dropped her hand to the zipper of his jeans and cupped his length through the stiff fabric. “I’m tired of playing around. I want this bad boy deep and making me scream.”

Excerpt
They bundled her up and drove her back to Eli’s loft where they stripped her and tucked her tired, sore body into his large bed.  Dani felt the bed dip then the press of their naked bodies against her sides before drifting off into sleep.  For the first time in ages, she slept the night through, but woke to just one hard, naked body pressing her down into the soft mattress.  She went to wrap her arms around Dale’s broad, smooth shoulders but instead discovered them bound above her head, her helpless state making the decision whether to stay or go easy.
With a low chuckle, Dale nipped her chin, saying, “Good morning, sweetie.  Do you need the restroom before we begin?”
“What?  Oh, n… no, oh God.”
Sliding down her body, he grabbed an extra pillow, gave her a one-word order to “lift” then shoved it under her very sore butt.  Watching wide-eyed, waiting in breathless anticipation for his next move, she swallowed audibly when he clasped her right ankle, spread her leg and cuffed it to the bed post before doing the same with her left.  Lying spread eagle with her hips elevated put her pelvis on display, and when he tugged her light curls on his way back up, she wondered if he preferred her bare like the women she had seen at The Warehouse.
“Fuck but you look awesome spread out like a mouth-watering feast for me to dine on.  Too bad I don’t have much time to drag this out for long.”
“I… I don’t mind… quick,” she managed to get out as he started his feast at her breasts, at first surprising her with his soft suckling.  After feeling how tender her nubs were from the nipple huggers, she soon became grateful for the lighter touches that soothed as well as aroused.
“I’ll go easy, but ever since I watched Eli fucking you yesterday, I’ve just had to have you.”

Lily and the Gambler by Linda McLaughlin #Western #Romance #sensual #Eggcerpt Exchange

Thanks so much for hosting me today!

I’m so thrilled about my latest release, a Western romance set in the California Gold Country, specifically Grass Valley, 1868. My husband and I visited the area some years ago and I fell in love with it. Grass Valley was especially interesting to me because of the large Cornish population in the 19th century. This area had deep gold veins that couldn’t be panned. Cornish miners were encouraged
to come because of their experience in the tin mines of Cornwall, which were petering out. To this day, the Cornish pasty is a local treat, and the city still celebrates a Cornish Christmas.

A shorter, sexier version of this story was previously published by Amber Quill Press. When I got the rights back, I realized I now had the opportunity to tell the tale as I’d originally intended, as a sensual romance. It was fun to revisit Lily and King’s world and spend time with them again. They are two of my favorite characters. I hope readers will agree.

Lily & the Gambler

By Linda McLaughlin
Sensual Western Historical Romance

Blurb:

Respectability is in the eye of the beholder. Or so Lily Penhallow hopes when she assumes the guise of the widow Albright. She has learned the price of flaunting convention and is determined to obey society's rules from now on. After her lover, Nigel Albright, was killed in a duel over a card game, Lily dons widow’s weeds and travels to Grass Valley, California where she plans to marry the man her uncle works for, a respectable mine owner named Hugh Ogilvie. Then, on the riverboat from San Francisco, she meets Creighton 'King' Callaway, a professional gambler, just the kind of man she should avoid.

King believes that since life is a gamble, there's no point in planning for the future. You have to trust Lady Luck. After meeting Lily, King knows he has found his Queen of Hearts. But can he convince her to pass up a sober businessman for a foot-loose card sharp?

Only Lady Luck knows for sure...

Excerpt:

Lily smiled at him. “That was quite a trick. Do you tell fortunes, too?”

“As a matter of fact, I do. Is the lady interested?”

“Perhaps,” she said, aware he was flirting with her again and annoyed with herself because she was enjoying it. “There should be a deck of cards here somewhere.”

“No cards required. Just let me see your palm.”

Unable to stop herself, Lily stripped off her gloves and let him take her hand. He held it in his left hand, and with his right index finger, traced the lines on her palm. Shivers ran up her arm at each caressing touch. His scent, a mixture of bay rum, male musk, and a faint hint of tobacco, overwhelmed her.

“What do you see?” she asked, her voice suddenly breathless.

“Health and long life.”

“What, no handsome stranger?” she joked.

He raised his head and stared into her eyes. “Oh, yes, I see romance ahead for you. With a dark haired fellow. But he isn’t a stranger.”

For what seemed an age, she stared into his green-gold eyes while her pulse quickened and warmth stole through her veins. It would be so easy to surrender to the feelings he evoked.

“I also see a fork in the road ahead,” he added softly. “You have a decision to make. A very important decision.”

She snatched her hand away, knowing she couldn’t afford to be distracted by him. It wasn’t as if he had made her any promises. “I think you need to practice your fortune-telling skills, Mr. Callaway.”

He chuckled. “There’s something else I’d like to practice.” Cupping her chin, he stared at her, his eyes full of half promises. “Oh, hell, I may get my face slapped for this, but…” His hand moved to the back of her neck as he lowered his head and captured her lips in a kiss that stole her breath away.

For a moment, she closed her eyes and gave herself up to the kiss. Then a door slammed somewhere in the house, reminding her of where they were. She pushed him away. “How dare you?” she hissed.

He gave her a lazy grin. “What’s that old saying? Nothing ventured, nothing gained?”

“I think you’d best be going.”

He paused at front door, turned and held her gaze for a moment, then left.

She sighed and leaned against the doorjamb. What had she been thinking to let him kiss her, however briefly?

Excerpt:

“People have been mentioning Artemis,” Calypso said. “You wouldn’t have heard anything?”
They knew, Amy thought. Somehow they knew. “No, Artemis isn’t here anymore. At least from what I heard.”
“Damn shame, too,” complained one of the customers in the shop. “Not the Artemis that is playing with the lights and stuff. But the Artemis who liked to help people with their problems.”
“Yeah, I think if someone is behind it, it’s someone pretending to be Artemis, or trying to shift the blame on her,” said another customer. “She may have done some things, but she’d never deliberately set out to get people hurt.”
Amy smiled at the person that made the comment. “I’ve been here all day. But it’s more than the traffic lights. Didn’t I hear that the other day the Financial District was shut down because the money showed at zero?”
“That is something that Artemis had fun with,” Dark Master commented. “Or had in the past.”
“I’m sure that whatever has been happening in Quail City has nothing to do with Artemis,” Amy replied.
“Hope for Artemis’ sake it’s true,” Calypso said. “Williams is ranting and raving in Commissioner James’ office asking for her to be arrested.”
Just bet he is, thought Amy. “Is there anything else I can get you?” Amy asked them. She saw that it was almost six and the last bus going towards her apartment would be there any minute.

“You in our bed,” Calypso said in her ear. “Your blue hair will look glorious on our pillows.” Then out loud stated, “That’s all for now.”

Have Rifle, Will Travel – a teaser story introducing Jared Armstrong

An interlude with Jared Armstrong, one of the Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge Series

Read his story in Marriage, Mobsters, and the the Marine or check out by box set of all three Westhorpe Ridge Stories the lovely people at Loose id have put together.
Please note, this first appeared on the Loose id Website.

Have Rifle, Will Travel

A young Marine shook Jared Armstrong’s shoulder. “Master Sergeant, sir, wake up. We’re making an unscheduled landing in the Caribbean.”
Jared came awake like a cat, fully alert and ready for anything. “Emergency landing? Or a change of plans?”
The Private shook his head. “Sorry, sir. I’ve no idea. The co-pilot just stuck his head around the cabin door and told us to buckle up for a landing.”
Jared gave a slight nod, stretched his long legs in front of him, and closed his eyes. His missions had taught him to snatch any moment of rest he could. “Probably not an emergency then.”
The engine whined and the military plane made a steep descent. Jared’s ears popped, but he swallowed and said nothing. A few moments later, they landed on a Military airstrip. The pilot dropped the rear ramp and Captain Randall, an officer Jared had served under in the Middle East, strode inside. “Master Sergeant Armstrong, front and center.”
Jared uncurled from the seat, pulled himself up to his full six-feet-six-inches, and saluted. With his dark hair, more muscles than most people could dream of, and a brown-eyed gaze cold enough to freeze water, he emanated danger and menace. The long flight back to Jacksonville had been uneventful, and he’d looked forward to being back on American soil. Ten years as a military sniper had left him weary.
Captain Randal returned the salute. “At ease, sergeant. Good to see you again. There’s a helicopter waiting for you. Don’t worry, your luggage will be delivered to your quarters in Jacksonville.”
Jared followed the Captain in silence, waiting for an explanation of why the military powers-that-be had pulled him off the transport. The driver revved the engine as Jared swung into the rear passenger seat. Captain Randal jumped in beside him. ”No time to brief you. The co-pilot will tell you everything once you’re airborne. Sorry to delay your demob, but it’s only for a few hours.”
The driver raced over the tarmac toward a waiting chopper. Jared guessed they needed someone to take a killer shot. His comrades on active duty had nicknamed “the man who never missed.”
After serving ten years in the Marines, Jared was ready to return to civilian life. He’d studied for a Business Administration degree in his downtime, and now he planned to use his knowledge to start his own business. For the last two years, he’d saved every nickel he could, only buying the occasional beer and renewing his membership of his BDSM club. He’d scraped together enough cash to buy some top-of-the-range carpentry tools and put down the deposit on a workshop.
Soon Armstrong’s Bespoke Kitchens would be a reality, not a distant dream. He’d be his own boss and create one-off high-end kitchens. Money would be tight at first, but he’d still manage the occasional visit to Masked Night’s BDSM club. Last time he’d been home, about two years ago, he’d spotted a sassy sub in in pale blue catsuit and mask. He’d fantasized about spanking her bare ass ever since.
The jeep jerked to a halt alongside a Cobra Attack Helicopter. It already had its rotors running. Jared nodded toward it. “My transport, sir?”
Captain Randal climbed out the jeep. “Get aboard, soldier.”
Jared jumped to the tarmac, saluted, and swung easily into the chopper’s backseat. An M27 assault rifle lay on the seat. Once he’d put on headphones, the pilot took the chopper airborne.
The co-pilot twisted in his seat and gave Jared a thumbs up. His voice came loud and clear through the headphones. “Welcome aboard. We’ve been tracking a couple of drug runners on a speedboat for about four hours now. We have a four Coastguard vessels in pursuit, but Captain Randal thought some overhead firepower might make boarding easier. It’s lucky you were passing by since the local barracks are down with the squits. Right now, their sharpshooters couldn’t take a shot to save their lives right now.”
Jared grinned. “Good job I’m here then.”
He took the rifle apart, checked over the pieces, and put it back together. “Everything looks in order here. How long until we engage the target?”
The pilot answered this time. “Half an hour, tops.”
Jared stared down at the Caribbean. After a tour in the Iraqi desert, the sun shimmering on the water was the most welcome sight he’d seen in ages. It made him think of the sub in the bright blue catsuit. Recently, everything reminded him of her. Rifle across his knee, he dozed with his eyes half shut.
When the chopper hovered over a speedboat, he sat up—all stillness and intense concentration. “Do you want me to put some warning shots across their bow?”
The co-pilot gave him the thumbs up. Jared unleashed a string of shots in a straight line, making water jump up and ripple in white-topped whirlpools in the speedboat’s path. As he reloaded the boat swung around and raced away. “Hold the chopper steady, I’m going to condition one.”
He locked and loaded. Staring down the sight, he targeted the boat’s engine. His breathing deepened. His eyes narrowed. Time stilled. He waited until his pulse slowed then exhaled and held his breath. Gently, as if caressing a lover, he squeezed the trigger.
A plume of fuel bust from the speedboat’s engine. It flew into the air like steam escaping a geyser. The boat engine stuttered and stopped. Two US Coastguard vessels approached it, but one of the drug dealers opened fire. Jared aimed again, but the shooter had ducked into the cabin.
Calm and still, his body on a hair trigger, Jared waited.
Gun in hand, the shooter raced from the cabin toward the rear. Jared fired again. The shooter clutched his shoulder as he tumbled from the deck. He fell in slow motion, hitting the sea with a splash. The boat slowed, gradually coming to a standstill. Its driver stepped on deck, his hands high in the air.
Jared settled back in his seat. “I thought you might want the shooter alive. The bullet won’t kill him, but his blood in the water might. Someone better pull him out before those sharks get him.”
As the pilot turned back toward base, the co-pilot gave him a thumbs up. “Great shooting.”
Jared unloaded the M27. “This’ll need a good clean.”
Through the headphones, the pilot told him, “That was one hell of a shot. Well, they both were, and they saved lives. It’ll be my honor to clean your gun, Master Sergeant. Good thing you were passing by.”
Mission complete, Jared relaxed. As tension flowed from his shoulders, he thought about his new business venture and that sassy kitty-kat he planned to spank soon.

About Kryssie Fortune

Kryssie Fortune writes the sort of hot sexy books she loves to read. If she can sneak a dragon into her paranormal books she will. Her paranormal heroes are muscular werewolves, arrogant Fae, or BDSM loving dragons.

Kryssie likes her contemporary heroes ex-military and dominant. Her heroines are kick ass females who can hold their own against whatever life - or Kryssie - throws at them.

Kryssie's pet hates are unhappy endings, and a series that end on a cliff hanger.
Her books are all stand alone even when part of series. Plot always comes before sex, but when her heroines and heroes get together, the sex is explosive and explicit. One review called it downright sensual.

Heroes of Westhorpe Ridge Box set #BDSM #Spanking #Miltary #adventure

Westhorpe Ridge - a small town with a big heart.

The lovely people at Loose id have put my three stand alone romances in box set. Better still, it costs way less than buying them individually.

Marriage, Mobsters, and the Marine
Abigail Montgomery, a small town schoolteacher with zero self-confidence, dreams of the Dickensian Christmas her family never enjoyed. Each month she attends a masked BDSM club, but her next visit will be her last. If she doesn’t marry within the next year, her brother won’t inherit Montgomery Hall. Desperate, she advertises for a husband.

Jared Armstrong, a former Marine sharpshooter and occasional Dom needs $125,000 to get his family out of a hole. His solution--to marry Abigail Montgomery for her money. His only regret is his wife won’t accept his spanking lifestyle.

Gradually, Abigail comes to dream of making their marriage real, but she promised Jared a divorce two years after their wedding. Can they share some Christmas magic as their relationship faces extortion threats, a kidnapping, and an attempted murder? Or will Jared break her heart when he walks away?

Sex, Scandal, and the Sheriff
Jasmine Stewart (Jazz to her friends) falls for the blond stranger when he spanks and seduces her at a Washington soiree. Later, when she discovers her flatmate is trying to draw her into a spy ring, she goes to the authorities. The ensuing publicity costs her her job, her security, and her future. Starting over in Westhorpe Ridge is her only option.

Sean Mathews, former SEAL and Westhorpe Ridge’s sheriff, can’t forget the woman he spanked when he visited Washington, but he thinks she’s a spy. When she turns up in Westhorpe Ridge, he tries everything to make her leave town. Despite their misunderstandings, though, they can’t keep their hands off each other.

As Year’s Eve looms, the spy ring resurfaces. Jazz will need all of Sean’s SEAL prowess to survive. But because his wounded leg cost him his speed in the water, will it be enough?

Desire, Deceit, and the Doctor
Twelve years ago, Mandy Devlin moved away from her friends and family--under threat. If she returned in the next ten years or told anyone who fathered her baby, her boyfriend’s great-aunt would bankrupt her family. She’s a single mom who dreams of her lost love and a good spanking. When she’s finally free to return to Westhorpe Ridge, the last person she expects to see is Adam--the man she loved and lost so long ago.

Dr. Adam Montgomery doesn’t know he has a son. Thanks to his great-aunt’s will, he has nine months to find a bride or he loses Montgomery Hall and the fifteen million dollars she left him. Although he seduces Mandy on his first night home, he still believes she betrayed him twelve years ago. No way would he marry a woman like her.

As Valentine’s Day looms, someone tries to kill Mandy. Is Adam trying to get rid of her? Or can Mandy trust him to protect them?

Note: All of the books in this set were previously released as single titles.

Five Facts about The Marquis and the Midwife #historical #romance @AlinaKField

Five facts about The Marquess and the Midwife
·       I’d planned to have my midwife heroine assist a delivery where the new mother makes a miraculous recovery from eclampsia, but I sat next to an obstetrical nurse turned author at a book signing, and she said, no, no, no. It seems that eclampsia, even unto the present day, carries just too much risk of death.
·       What most of us think of us as a jolly old English Christmas originated with the Victorians. I knew this, so I downplayed my Regency characters’ Christmas festivities. Too much, my English editor said, so I had to add in some mistletoe, syllabub, and good eats.
·       An organ grinder appears off stage in the story. My research told me that in this era, there were quite a few Italian organ grinders who fled to England. Who knew?
·       In my first draft of the story, Ameline had only one child. But there was much that was “off” in that first draft, and I decided to go for broke in the rewrite and give her twins. Oh, the power of the pen!
·       Ameline’s host and hostess star in one of my earlier books, Bella’s Band. Their steward, Bink Gibson, who makes a cameo appearance in The Marquess and the Midwife, is the hero of my next book, The Bastard’s Iberian Bride. For more on that book, please visit my blog tomorrow at http://alinakfield.com/blog.

THE MARQUESS AND THE MIDWIFE IS A 2017 RONE NOMINEE IN THE NOVELLA CATEGORY. IF YOU HAVE TIME, AND ARE WILLING, I WOULD VERY MUCH APPRECIATE A VOTE IN THIS “PEOPLE’S CHOICE” CONTEST. BOOKS WITH THE MOST VOTES MOVE ON TO THE RONE FINALS. HERE’S THE IND’TALE LINK:

He released her and leaned back, and his shirt gaped around a starburst scar, corded and jagged right above his heart.
She gasped and reached to touch it, but he clasped her hand and pushed it away.
“Waterloo?” she whispered. “I’d heard you were wounded, but—”
“I survived,” he said in a tight voice.
Her lungs squeezed and her heart quickened. Had he? If so, it was just barely. He’d been stabbed or speared, or shot, and somehow, somehow, his great heart had carried on. This had been no minor wound. Virgil had suffered terribly.
“I want to see.” She pushed his hand away and grasped his collar. He grabbed for her hand, but she dodged him and ripped the fine cotton, rending the shirt down the front.
Ameline—”
“You have a trunk full of shirts. I want to see.” She knelt before him on the sofa, yanked the shirt down his arms, and studied his chest. Small cuts marked his side and his belly, but the mottled scar was the worst. It would have taken months to fully heal a wound like this from the inside out. He should have died.
Her vision blurred so she couldn’t see. But her hands, trained to examine a babe in the womb, they could see. She flattened her palms and set a course over the ridges knots, and hard ripples.
He surely had almost died. A world without Virgil, without his laughter, and his generally kind heart. He’d used her, true, as men did. It was in a man’s animal nature, wasn’t it? And she’d used him also, hadn’t she? Both of them grieving over his sister’s death, and comforting each other. And she was left with her girls, and things had turned out all right, hadn’t they?
Her hands cupped his shoulders and slipped over to his back. No scars there that she could feel. The ball, or saber, or…what else did men use to kill each other?…had not gone clean through. It had merely dredged a hole in his front and wreaked havoc inside him.
And nearly killed him.
She’d always pictured a wounded Virgil, binding up a minor slash and heading off to the Continent to charm actresses and diplomats’ wives, maybe taking a wife there himself, and bringing her back to breed pretty, cheerful children. Virgil, rich, content and happy.
How she’d wallowed in that vision.
The feel of the scarred skin melted away her resentment. Let him have that happy life with his marchioness and heirs. And perhaps, on a rare occasion, he could come down to Longview and visit his twins.
“Ameline.” Virgil’s breath touched her cheek.
Large hands cupped both of her hips.
Warmth spurted through her. Too late, she realized her error. She’d got too close again.
She pulled the sides of his shirt up, her gaze sliding over the rip and…
Right. He was fully erect. Of course he was.
Hot need shrieked inside her, and she battered it down and found her breath. “I apologize. My infernal curiosity.” She patted his shoulders and eased away.
His eyes had gone dark and feral, his lips parted like a hungry man ready to chomp down on a long-awaited meal. Inside, she melted more.
She took in a great breath. She must keep him talking. “How did the wound happen?” she asked.
His eyes shuttered and he yanked her hard against him, smashing his lips to hers.
